Excellent use of Kindergarten Cop pic.

All bottle rockets should be launched on the clock.

Student: Do you get paid for this?

Teacher: Kinda.

If teachers were paid what they are worth and schools were funded  with what is right the world would be a lot better place.

This applies to public universities , too. As I frequently point out to the library drinking club, despite all the education and library and/or archival experience sitting around the table, every one of us would make more money as truck drivers. You’d have to be either an associate dean or very long time department head here to make more than a truck driver.

I spent all summer drinking beer, and had two STEM classes to teach afterwards, so I was lifting a bit light for me. Plus, none of these kids can spot me. Thankfully I’m the only bro in the weight room.  My 5x5 sets were:

Squat:193 lbs

Deadlift (after the squats and the full 5x5): 225 lbs

Overhead Press: 111 lbs

The weights are weird because I have a mix of Metric and ‘Murican bumper plates.

That's a high ohp to squat ratio

I’ve always been taught that a good squat to bench ratio is 75% and a good bench to OHP ratio is 60%. That’s just for ORMs. The ratio is going to get even larger when doing reps because the OHP works smaller muscles and less o f them, so they’ll tire out quicker.

I probably could have added more to the OHP than I could the squats, but had a larger margin of safety with how our squat rack is set up.

Oh, unions would get in there and make sure everything stayed mediocre at best.

I don’t know. My best friend’s dad is a regional haul truck driver. 5 days a week he drives a truck from Albuquerque to Flagstaff ( or Albuquerque to El Paso, or Albuquerque to Amarillo) drops off his two trailers, picks up two new trailers and drives back to Abq. He sleeps in his own bed every night and makes slightly more than twice  what I do working in an academic research library for a state university.

I’m guessing he may have one of the sweetest truck driver gigs there is.

He also has 30 years of experience on you...

W ell, he’s got about 10 years experience a truck driver. One of his sons drove truck for awhile after doing the certificate program through a community college where seven weeks later he walked out with a class A CDL and every endorsement . He managed to snag a UPS regional gig as his first truck driving job. He didn’t have the seniority as a new guy to have a dedicated lane, but he still slept in his own bed most nights. He actually gave up the UPS gig for a federal emergency management job at the national lab in town that pays less, but is the job he has always wanted.

“certificate program through a community college where seven weeks later he walked out with a class A CDL and every endorsement”

Not related to our conversation, but just goes to show that there are plenty of good jobs to be had if a person will put in some effort and is willing to work hard.
